Description
This is a sister painting to a painting i did called "Happy Hour at the Lone Cypress". The lone cypress is a famous tree in Pebble Beach California that is well know, used a a logo for the pebble beach company and photographed by tots of tourist. I decided to do a painting almost exactly like this one of the lone cypress. after creating the painting and using it on a postcard to advertise a show I was having I was contacted by Pebble Beach that I had to sign away the rights to producing the painting in print form because it was a infringement on their trademark. I was thinking how can I not paint a living tree mostly as differently as I did it. But after researching i found they had done this to several photographers and artist. I thought about trying to fight it but like all the artist before me they have too much money and i had very little for a court battle. I did have to sign away the rights but ended up getting on the front cover of an article about the company bullying around artist and photographers. Because of all the bad press it caused for them it is much easier to create depictions of the lone cypress today without getting harassed quite as much. Because i could no longer sell reproductions of the painting which I really liked. I found and photographed another random tree and rocks then used these to paint the current painting which i can make reproduction of.
